Pay Per Click Frequently Asked Questions
What is a click?
A click is when a potential renter views your specific property by clicking on your listing. You are not charged for people just viewing your calendar or for 'General Inquiries'. You are not charged for logging in and changing your listing or viewing the request database. The more often potential renters click on your property, the more likely you will rent your home.
What if someone keeps clicking on my house! Won't that drive up my bill?
No. Only one click per person is recorded per day. If someone looks at your house repeated throughout the day, it only counts as one 'click'.
What is a bid?
A bid is the amount you pay for a click. The minimum allowed bid is 5 cents per click- your property is automatically set up at this base level. The properties are ranked in order of bid amount. Increasing your bid per click will bring your property to the top of the rental list.
I list on other sites and I have never heard of another company doing this. Why is OnlineVacationRentals.com moving to pay per click?
We don't know of another vacation rental site offering pay per click but most search engines are now going that route. It is the most equitable way of charging our clients. If your property is in a 'low traffic' area you will get fewer clicks, which will likely lead to fewer rentals and a lower monthly pay per click bill. If your property is in a ‘high traffic’ area, you will get many clicks, which will likely lead to many rentals and a higher monthly pay per click bill. You know that you will get what you pay for!
I have a fixed advertising budget. How can I guaranty I will only spend so much per month?
For people who have a fixed budget, just log in and set a monthly budget under the mangage bids screen. When your property receives enough clicks to meet the budget you will be sent an email stating that your monthly budget has been reached and your property will be delisted until the start of the next billing your.
My property is booked for the rest of the season and I don't want any clicks. Should I cancel?
There is no need to cancel. If you keep your calendar updated, you will get only a limited number of clicks. You are not charged for people viewing your calendar. If a potential renter is performing a search for availability during New Year’s week and your rental is booked, simply update your rental calendar to display the booked week and the site will filter out your home so renters don’t click on your home when it’s not available. If someone is searching for all available homes in a specific area and doesn’t care about availability and you truly do not want any clicks at all (even for next season) you can simply log in and 'pause' your property. Pausing your property will remove it from the rental list. You may reactivate it at any time.
Am I charged a click if a potential renter clicks on my site without first looking at my calender?
The majority of the time a potential renter fills out the search form to look for a property. The search form includes the dates of their prefered stay. The system will filter out your property if the calendar shows it is booked for any of the nights during their ideal stay. If your property is not on the list of available houses, the renter CANT click on your property. Occasionally there instances where are person will prefer just to look at each property one at a time, but it is definitely the exception.
On the statistics page for my property I see "total number of hits" and another "visits in the same user session". What do these terms mean?
Hits mean unique clicks. If someone views your property once that is one hit. If some one views your property 3 times in one day, that is still just one hit. Visits in a user session is the same idea except it includes multiple visits from the same person. If a person looks at the house 4 times in a day that number will increment by 4. You are charged for UNIQUE CLICKS, not multiple hits from the same person. These numbers are for your use. You can clear those statistics by clicking the 'Clear all site stats' link.
